The role of the School Counselors and Social Worker are to help students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become productive and active members of our school and community. Much of our time is spent in direct contact with students, including both individual and group counseling and social work, as well as teaching our new school-wide social-emotional learning curriculum, Second Step. Additionally, we facilitate the RAD Program, our school-wide positive behavior system. RAD stands for Respect everyone, Accept responsibility for words and actions, and Demonstrate a positive attitude.
Students included in a counseling or social work group are typically seen on a weekly basis for 20-30 minutes. Groups are created and facilitated based on need. Some groups that we offer throughout the school year depending on need are:
- Social skills groups
- Self-regulation groups
- Anxiety groups
- Friendship groups
- Self-esteem groups
- Grief and loss groups
